In Australia, we skate with all masters in one division. The distances skated at Nationals are in order, 1500m, 500m, 1000m, 3000m superfinal. Last year was the first year with no B final for the 3000m but due to protests, they ran a B final which was great as the the competitors spoke and the officials listened. In North America, it appears the standard distances for Masters is 1000m, 500m, 777m and 1500m superfinals. I think the 800m was the old half mile legacy of the old days of 1/4, 1/2 and miles. I would actually propose that an international standard should be (competition rules) 1000m, 500m, 777m and 1500m superfinals with B,C,D etc 1500m finals. 8 in A final, 6 in the rest. I have drafted a set of 'International rules' which are not finalised, but as ST doesn't have any real official international body, that is something that needs work - even just a working group of people willing to vote to standardise these types of issues. I am more than happy to be the Austrlian rep - any other offers from outside the land down under? Reagrds Frank
